Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works for NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She earned an Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign reporter of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. She served as a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered in the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable reports over the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms and an investigation into the Iran Contra affair. She traveled extensively with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
